Foodstuffs charges ahead supporting a carbon neutral NZ

More New Zealanders can look forward to charging their electric vehicles at PAK’nSAVE, New World and Four Squares in the future after Foodstuffs successfully secured funding through the Government’s Low Emissions Contestable Fund.

The funding will enable partners Foodstuffs and ChargeNet, the largest privately owned fast-charging network in the Southern Hemisphere, to deliver 16 more electric car fast chargers across New Zealand, adding to the 70 this well-established partnership has already installed.

Head of Sustainability at Foodstuffs NZ, Mike Sammons says: “We’re absolutely delighted to be extending this opportunity for New Zealanders to be able to charge their EV’s at Foodstuffs store sites. This funding will support us to extend the network of chargers enabling more New Zealanders to adopt a low carbon lifestyle and travel emissions free.”

Current demand for electric vehicles is growing as New Zealanders become more concerned about the environment and their own sustainability efforts.

“Foodstuffs is a member of the Climate Leaders Coalition and we are strongly committed to playing our part in the important job of reducing carbon emissions,” says Sammons.

Foodstuffs currently has a number of game-changing carbon reduction initiatives underway, including the installation of the single largest array of solar panels in New Zealand and the operation of a fleet of electric delivery vans.

“Transitioning to a low carbon future may not be easy, but we’re up for the challenge. We see partnerships and collaborations with businesses such as ChargeNet and Government being intrinsic to achieving the goal of a carbon neutral New Zealand by 2050,” says Sammons.
