In an exceptional display of consistency, the Daniel Le Brun Brut Non-Vintage, Daniel Le Brun Rosé and the Daniel Le Brun 2009 Blanc de Blancs were all awarded with gold medals, from a pool of over 2,000 wine entries worldwide.
Daniel Le Brun’s three winning wines will be formally honoured along with other medallists at the 2015 Awards Dinner in Auckland.
Daniel Le Brun winemaker, Andrew Petrie, says the awards are testament to the brand’s consistency over the past ten years. “Daniel Le Brun represents the best New Zealand méthode has to offer. Being awarded three gold medals is a great honour for us.”
Daniel Le Brun heralds from Marlborough, widely acknowledged as one of the world’s best sparkling wine-growing regions outside of Champagne itself, and produces wines by following the same traditional technique used in Champagne, earning the classification of ‘Méthode Traditionnelle’.
Daniel le Brun is also a member of Methode Marlborough, a society formed in 2013 to communicate the quality and heritage of Marlborough traditional method sparkling wines. “This result, up against a number of superstars from Champagne, shows the fantastic potential the Marlborough region has for producing world class methode sparkling wine, a message the society is passionately conveying to the world,” says Petrie.
The brand has become a firm favourite with New Zealand sparkling drinkers, experiencing rapid growth over the past three years.
“While the Brut Non-Vintage is always a popular choice, the growing appreciation for Rosé and Blanc de Blanc show New Zealanders are looking for new and interesting expressions of sparkling to try,” Petrie says.
The New Zealand International Wine Show is the largest wine competition held in the country. Entry is open for wines from around the world, made from any variety. This year 2,103 entries were received from 10 countries resulting in 221 Gold, 386 Silver and 910 Bronze Medals being awarded.
