Retailers are preparing for a busy Christmas, as shoppers in New Zealand gear up to spend $1.75 billion on gifts this year. But gifts are just part of almost $6 billion New Zealanders will spend this Christmas, including food, entertainment and holidays.

According to a recent MYOB survey, almost half (48%) of New Zealanders say they intend to purchase chocolate as a gift this Christmas. Other gift favourites include food and drink items (47%), clothing and shoes (42%), gift vouchers (42%) and toys (38%).

Our Editor and her family decided to give donations to various charities as part of their Christmas gifting, while our FMCG Business team is supporting the Rainforest Alliance this year – so there’s another great idea, if you are one of the many, many shoppers who leave Christmas gifts to the last moment.

Our team would like to take this opportunity to thank all the wonderful people, companies and organisations that have supported FMCG Business throughout 2019.

We’ve got some exciting plans up our sleeve for 2020 and look forward to sharing them with you as the year progresses. So if you are thinking about your marketing plans for 2020, please get in touch with the team for some tremendous opportunities across our print and digital channels.

We’ll be back in print in February but still bring you updates on our websites, e-newsletters and social media, so follow us to keep up to date with the latest industry news.

We wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a fabulous New Year, happy holidays and have a great summer!
