Happy Birthday Supie!

Happy Birthday Supie!

It’s Supie’s first Birthday this month – and it seems the Auckland-based online supermarket keeps on growing from strength to strength, now delivering a range of about 6000 products, including beer, wine and cider.

The retailer is pioneering a new way to bring food to our tables directly from the people who produce it, grow it, and make it. Shoppers can filter over 50+ diets and values and easily discover products that best match their needs.

Supie Founder Sarah Balle

To mark Supie’s first birthday, members will get 15% cash back on all fresh produce this month. Founder and CEO Sarah Balle also sent the following message to Supie members:

“I want to thank our amazing members for all of your support over the past year.

“Becoming a new player in the grocery industry is no easy feat, but with lots of hard work, determination and a little kiwi ingenuity, I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come. In just over a year, we are grateful to have over 20,000 Supie Members.

“I’m really excited for the future of Supie, and now all New Zealanders have the opportunity to own a slice of the supermarket you spend your hard-earned money with each week.

“We invite you to learn more about investing in Supie and thank you for coming on the journey with us.”

The start-up announced in April that it had brought forward its second capital raise due to unprecedented growth in members and revenue over the last quarter.

Since the beginning of this year Supie has seen a huge increase in demand. In some instances orders couldn’t be fulfilled quickly enough, due to resource constraints and there is now a need to raise funds to fulfill this demand but also to invest in even more growth.

During the last seed funding round $2.5 million was raised, showing that Kiwi investors are prepared to back the future of grocery shopping. The funding round was led by Icehouse and supported by Enterprise Angels and included funding by Arc Angels, a fund focused on investment in female entrepreneurship.

When Supie was founded last year, Balle said: “We’re a small team of passionate Kiwis with big ambitions to make a true impact. We believe food is the most powerful force for change for our families, New Zealand, and our environment, so every day we are working towards a more sustainable way we buy and sell food in New Zealand. We make socially conscious decisions in everything we do, as everything we do today will affect all of our tomorrow. So, every product on Supie has been hand-selected by us and aligns with our everyday mission to create a better tomorrow.”
