The newly released Gunn Estate Reserve Chardonnay 2014 is a classic of its kind and a clear illustration of this varietal’s popular appeal. The Reserve Chardonnay 2014 proves that the sequel can be just as good as the original, following on from the critically acclaimed inaugural release of this wine from the 2013 vintage.
A product of the fabulous 2014 vintage, this Reserve Chardonnay delivers a classic Hawke’s Bay ‘peaches and cream’ style with just the right hint of spicy, smoky oak.
The Reserve range is crafted with fruit from carefully selected vineyards to be wines with richness, depth and character while still retaining Gunn Estate’s trademark honest, approachable style.
Fruit for the Reserve Chardonnay 2014 was gently pressed, fermented in stainless steel tanks with French oak and underwent a full malo-lactic fermentation to produce a rich, balanced, full bodied wine.
Tasting Note: A fine example of quality Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay. The smoky oak nose is generously supported by peaches and cream, with baking spices and lemon zest adding depth in the background. The weighty palate entry is sustained, with the influence of oak fermentation supporting the back palate, leaving a lingering hint of citrus and baking spice.
Food match: Classic Crab Cakes with homemade tartare sauce.
Recommended retail price: $17.99.
