From the editor’s desk: Happy holidays!

from_the_editors_desk_-_mumm_&_glassesIt’s been another very interesting year in the foodie world and I can’t wait to find out what 2015 has in store for us. Just when I thought I’d seen it all – from gummi bear-flavoured sausages to deer cheese – shoppers in my neck of the woods started queuing up for a coveted premium chocolate milk next to security guards. If you have an amazing success story, new product, or launch campaign to share, then please contact us with your news and favourite snaps – we’d love to hear from you!

Speaking of amazing stories . . . being a full time Champagne Ambassador must surely be the best job in the world. I had the good fortune of meeting two Champagne Ambassadors recently, who were representing G.H. Mumm at a media function in Auckland. There I was reminded of the luxurious joys only a fine French champagne – chilled to perfection – can bring. A group of food and wine writers discussed with the Ambassadors how to match food with champagne (think: scallops, lobster, snapper, but also sushi, chicken and even parmesan) and for a marriage made in heaven we agreed on oysters paired with Blanc de Blanc. I also discovered that a good champagne, served for dessert, refreshes the palate and leaves you with a light and happy feeling at the end of a festive meal. As a prestige champagne house, G.H. Mumm has been blending the finest vintages since 1827. Historically, champagne was served at the coronations of the Kings of France and many monarchs used G.H. Mumm as their house pour. Thankfully, G.H. Mumm Cordon Rouge is now also available in New Zealand supermarkets (Pernod Ricard took the brand under its wings about 10 years ago) and it’s now on my shopping list for the festive season.

Our editorial team has sent the Dec/Jan special edition of FMCG Business to print and is taking a small break over Christmas. This means our final e-newsletter for 2014 will be sent out next week. You will find your e-news again in January and the next edition of the print magazine in early February.

Meanwhile, we hope you too can make the most of summer and enjoy the holidays with family and friends. Retailers hoping for some early festive cheer will be happy to hear that sales are expected to boom this month. Here’s to a cracker Christmas and a very prosperous New Year!

Best wishes from all of us at FMCG Business,

Tamara
