Pams Pantry; a 100% self-checkout store, will throw open its doors in July, heralding a new way for North Canterbury customers to shop their favourite great value brands.

This new supermarket will feature approximately 2,500 product options, primarily from the Pams, Pams Finest and Value labels. The focus is firmly on quality products at low prices with lashings of fresh produce and some of New Zealand’s other favourite brands.

Tim Donaldson, General Manager Retail for Foodstuffs South Island, has long had this project in mind. “When the opportunity came up to re-visit one of our Four Square stores, we wanted to do something very different for customers.  Aside from the fact we get to celebrate one of New Zealand’s most iconic grocery brands, Pams, we also have the chance to create a new, one-of-a-kind shopping experience for our customers in Amberley.  We’re looking forward to seeing how customers respond.”

Amberley is the gateway to many of the South Island’s best playgrounds; the Waipara vineyards, Hanmer Springs, a newly resurgent Kaikoura and Marlborough.  This concept store will provide shoppers with a convenient, fast and comprehensive array of everyday staples as well as gourmet and artisan products.

Ease and convenience are key drivers for customers, alongside great value.

Donaldson says, “This store will offer all of this – and there’s something else new.  The store will be 100% self-checkout, freeing up our team members to help customers get what they want, how they want it.  There will still be an opportunity to catch up on local gossip and news with our people, but those customers who love the ability to get in and out quickly with no fuss, will enjoy the ease of self-checkout.”

Donaldson says, “Pams has been part of our Kiwi lifestyle since 1937 and it’s anticipated Pams Pantry will quickly establish a reputation as the ‘low price local’ where quality, meal inspiration and a quick shopping experience are placed front and centre. The Foodstuffs South Island team is very excited about this new concept store and we’ll be looking closely at how it goes with a view to introducing Pams Pantry to other parts of the Mainland.”

The store will create approximately seven jobs in Amberley.
