Production to commence at Scotland’s newest distillery

Image - ChivasWith two years of construction work now complete, the new Dalmunach Speyside malt whisky distillery in Carron is expected to begin production in late October. Drinks giant Chivas Brothers have built their fourteenth distillery in order to meet expected long term global growth for Scotch whisky.

Dalmunach is named after a pool in the nearby River Spey, the river that gave Speyside whisky its name. The distillery features the latest innovations and environmental expertise such as heat recovery technology. The tun room contains 16 stainless steel washbacks as well as a 9.5 meter diameter mashtun which draws spring water for production from the site’s original distilling water sources. Once up and running, Dalmunach is capable of producing up to 10 million litres of high quality Speyside style spirit per year.

Laurent Lacassagne, chairman and chief executive of Chivas Brothers, said “as global demand for Scotch whisky increases year on year, our confidence in the long-term growth prospects for the category remains strong.”

Lacassagne added “with their reputation for crafted excellence, our blended whiskies form a key part of the Chivas Brothers portfolio in both emerging economies and mature markets, so we believe the increased capacity which the new distillery will provide will help to drive the business forward in the years to come.”

Chivas Brothers is the Scotch whisky and premium gin business of Pernod Ricard. Their brands include Chivas Regal, Ballantine’s and Royal Salute whiskies.
