Countdown has received consent to build a new supermarket in Vogeltown with local developer Brooklands Development Ltd, which will create up to 80 new jobs for the city and engage dozens of local construction workers and building contractors.

Countdown is investigating staff said to have racially profiled a pregnant shopper in Hamilton because she is Maori. Rikki Cooper told the company she was embarrassed after being publicly accused of shoplifting in its Dinsdale supermarket last week.
