Fast Moving Connected Goods: Focus on the Connected Fleet

By Steve Bowden, Teletrac Navman, Director of Sales Australasia at Teletrac Navman

Customers flocking online, Covid-19 hygiene practices, Click and Collect: A lot has changed in 2020 for FMCG. But one thing hasn’t changed: good business management is still core to operational success.

Keeping your people and goods moving requires efficient management of jobs, drivers, and vehicles – whilst ensuring the whole operation is safe and compliant. That’s why Teletrac Navman’s GPS-based fleet management system is designed to help businesses tackle all areas of their mobile operation in one powerful software platform.

Teletrac Navman’s cloud-based software is accessible on mobiles, laptops, desktops and tablets.

Teletrac Navman’s vehicle tracking system provides real-time visibility into all the vehicles and drivers across your entire fleet. It allows you to make better decisions and act on events with the backup of to-the-minute data, all while you co-ordinate and communicate effectively with multiple drivers on multiple jobs.

A Connected Fleet Will Assist Your Business To:

  • Improve road safety through better insights into driver behaviour and fatigue, plus enhanced vehicle maintenance
  • Maintain compliance through clearer communications and automated processes
  • Communicate rapid changes to drivers anywhere in the country
  • Streamline processes and administration for everyone; drivers, dispatch and management
  • Provide a more effective service to customers through real-time tracking
  • Gain insight intro trends and patterns allowing you to make better decisions based on accurate data

Whether there’s a risk to driver safety or a lack of transparency for customers, our fleet tracking experts can help solve the challenges your business faces. A success story is found in George Weston Food’s, which worked with Teletrac Navman to improve driver safety in its sales fleet.

Make Safer Driving a Team Sport

George Weston Foods produce buns, breads, crumpets and more under the Tip Top, Ploughman’s, Bürgen, Big Ben, Golden and Bazaar brands. They’re also producing some excellent, safe drivers thanks to great leadership and driver safety monitoring from Teletrac Navman.

The company installed Teletrac Navman’s system into six sales team vehicles, and following the successful trial, rolled the system out across the whole fleet – along with a bumper sticker with the message ‘Speed monitored for your safety and mine’.

With Teletrac Navman’s software, GWF drivers can review their personal driving habits using sophisticated second-by-second technology and gain a richer understanding of areas of improvement. “The results were incredibly insightful; some people were really surprised how complacent their attention to driving had become,” recalls Geoff Hutt, General Manager of Sales.

The driver score cards, which show speed, acceleration, cornering, and braking, became a popular tool for employees. The score cards ranked drivers against each other and increased competitiveness amongst them to get a safer score.

The results speak for themselves; GWF reduced its speeding incidents over three months by 48 per cent, from once every 174km to once every 337km.

Safer driving has many flow-on effects, such as lower fuel expenditure, reduced wear and tear on vehicles, reduced risk of damage, fines and infringements, peace of mind for compliance, and of course, reduced risk to an individual’s road safety.
