Turning Bananas into Fibres of Purpose

Turning Bananas into Fibres of Purpose

Dole Sunshine Company turns banana waste into fibres of purpose with Musa Fabric.

Dole’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond providing quality produce all around the globe, with the company putting the planet and their people at the heart of what they do for more than 170 years.

Doel’s promise to carbon neutrality has led them to partner with Musa Fabrics, a fashion brand that creates unique fashion pieces out of banana stem waste, as well as creating jobs in vulnerable Filipino communities.

As part of the Dole Promise towards zero fruit loss and working towards carbon neutrality, Dole and Musa Fabric are collaborating to empower underrepresented groups through training to extract fibers from banana stems the fibers are then woven into fabric and developed into fashion products by Musa Fabric.

To celebrate the partnership and celebrate  Dole’s commitment to people and the planet, come see the outfits up close at the Dole pop up store at Sylvia Park, Auckland, where we will be showcasing Musa Fabric products from Thursday 16th to Sunday 19th May 2024.

And while you may not be able to weave your banana waste into fabric, the pop up features tips and ideas on what you can do with your banana skins.

We hope to see you there.
