Organic product sales on the rise

rsz_4-organic_products_salesShoppers in New Zealand are buying more organic products, according to the Organics Market Report 2016, released by Organics Aotearoa New Zealand.

In the past financial year, organic sales in Countdown stores, for example, have increased by more than 20%. Almost one half of Countdown’s customers have picked up an organic item as part of their shop over the past year. With an increase in the number of customers purchasing organic products, Countdown is increasing the number of organic products available. Countdown stores currently have more than 500 organic products on offer, including fresh and grocery items.

Countdown’s own brand, Macro, is also becoming increasingly popular with sales growing by 15%. The Macro range currently includes around 40 organic products. Countdown’s General Manager of Merchandise Chris Fisher says: “We want to make great food accessible and affordable for Kiwis.

“With the increase in popularity of organic and health foods, we have extended our product organic range, and created dedicated health food sections in even more of our stores,” Fisher says.   Countdown currently has more than 75 stores with dedicated health food sections, and is aiming to expand this to 129 stores by 2017.

The biggest selling organic products in Countdown stores are:

  1. Banana Fairtrade Organic 850g
  2. Naturalea Organic Whole Milk 1L
