NZ sauces in hot form on global awards circuit

rsz_3-award_for_taco_chipotle_hot_sauce_125ml_rrp_899_credit_dan_bussellHot stuff! Sarah and Otis Frizzell’s The Lucky Taco is on a roll, taking out its fourth product award win in the past 12 months.

This time it’s in Louisiana at the World Hot Sauce Awards where the couple’s TLT Chipotle Hot Sauce has gained a silver medal in the Chipotle category. The same sauce won gold in Australasia’s 2015 Mr Chilli Awards late last year and the duo also took out two gongs at the Zest Fest in Texas earlier this year.

Sarah Frizzell, co-founder and owner of The Lucky Taco says, “We know people love our products in New Zealand, but it’s bloody fantastic to be recognised internationally”.

“However, it does also prove we are on the right track for world taco domination – and our next step is nationwide distribution by year’s end,” Sarah says.

Considered the world’s most prestigious chilli awards, the World Hot Sauce, BBQ and Spicy Food Awards is a competition to find the best extreme and intense foods in the world. It attracted 1,000 products from 213 companies representing 16 countries.

The Lucky Taco Chipotle Hot Sauce is the milder child from The Lucky Taco hot sauce range combining a low bite with an addictive smoky orange kick. It’s available in leading supermarkets nationwide with an RRP of $8.99.

Other awards received by The Luck Taco include:

  • Voted one of the best food trucks in the world in 2015 by Expedia.
  • ‘People’s Choice Award’ for ‘Best Food Truck in Auckland 2015’ by Metro magazine.
  • Gold for ‘BEST CHIPOTLE’ in Australasia’s 2015 ‘Mr Chilli’ Awards in October 2015.
  • Gold in the USA ‘Zest Fest 2016’ for the Jalapeño Hot Sauce in the ‘medium heat’ category.
  • Winner of ‘Zest Fest Silver Award 2016’ for the ‘Chilli Salt with Lemon & Lime’ in the ‘Drink Enhancer’ category.

About The Lucky Taco products

With hope of taco – world domination, by request of their customers in 2014 saw Sarah & Otis launched a range of authentic and fresh Mexican products – the very ingredients used in the ‘Lucky’ food truck. These include three hot sauces, chilli salt, exciting carrots, pink pickle and most recently via a successfully crowdfunded kickstarter campaign two taco kits; Sizzlin’ Steak & Chipotle Chicken, available in the fresh/chilled section at selected Auckland New Worlds, Farro Fresh and Nosh Food Markets. Now with a few accolades tucked under their taco belt, the duo aims for nationwide distribution in 2016.
