The Intermedia Group has acquired a controlling stake in the leading bi-monthly magazine for the Convenience & Impulse Retailing market and its associated bi-annual event, the Australian Convenience & Impulse Convention & Expo, effective 1 July 2014.

With a circulation now over 27,000 copies, Convenience & Impulse Retailing Magazine offers advertisers and marketers the largest circulation of any trade magazine targeting the Australian FMCG industry.

This acquisition expands the retail portfolio within The Intermedia Group which also includes print and online publications as well as events and exhibitions within the Liquor, Appliances & Electronics, Hair & Beauty, Giftware, Jewellery and Retail Business & Technology and FMCG sectors.

The magazine and exhibition were previously owned by Keith Berg, who ran the business for over 26 years. Berg will retain a minor shareholding under the new company structure.

“There are very few organisations that have genuine capabilities in publishing, exhibitions and the digital world that we find in The Intermedia Group,” said Berg.

“Intermedia will bring new eyes and fresh energy to the business and, after being in the chair for 26 years, I am delighted to see the C&I business in such capable hands.”

“C&I magazine has by far the largest circulation of any FMCG magazine in Australia,” said Intermedia managing director Simon Grover.

“We look forward to engaging with Convenience & Impulse Retailing industry stakeholders in the coming months to get their input on how we can take the magazine and the exhibition to the next level,” he said.

“We would like to acknowledge the tireless efforts by Convenience & Impulse Retailing founder Keith Berg to establish the magazine and the exhibition which has successfully educated and informed the industry for over 26 years.”

Under the new structure, a number of key appointments have been announced: Trisha Harris has been promoted to Editor of Convenience & Impulse Retailing Magazine and will oversee the re-launch of the publication’s email newsletter and website.

Safa de Valois has been promoted to Commercial Director and Publisher and will continue to manage all sales and marketing responsibilities.

James Wells, who has worked with The Intermedia Group for 14 years across several retail titles in print and online including National Liquor News, TheShout, Appliance Retailer and Jewellery World, will be joining the title as Editorial Director.
