Industry strategy aims to double honey exports by 2030

Comvita Limited, the global market leader in Mānuka Honey and premium natural health and wellness, was delighted to work alongside representative bodies and Industry to co-create the New Zealand Honey strategy, launched today by the Minister of Agriculture, Hon Todd McClay. The strategy outlines an intent to double New Zealand honey export values by 2030, creating a strong and sustainable Industry underpinned by highest quality products, consumer focus and the recognition of Mānuka as a taonga species only found in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Dr. Jackie Evans, Chief Science Officer at Comvita, heralded the launch of the strategy, which represents the first Industry, Government and Sector aligned agreement. “We are excited to see the Industry coming together to prioritise sustainability, bee welfare, product quality and consumer needs. This strategy paves the way for a more resilient and prosperous future for New Zealand’s honey sector,” Dr. Evans stated.

David Banfield, CEO of Comvita, expressed confidence in the Industry’s potential for growth and innovation. “The launch of this strategy marks a significant milestone for our Industry to work collectively to enhance the value and reputation of New Zealand honey globally.

Furthermore, a commitment to sustainability and taking a lead globally on bee welfare is totally aligned to the Comvita Harmony Plan, first launched in 2020,” Banfield said.
