Fight for the title of world’s greatest mixologist

47 of the world’s greatest mixologists came together at Gleneagles, Scotland to mark the start of the sixth annual Diageo Reserve World Class Global Final 2014, one of the industry’s most prestigious and respected cocktail competition.   NLN eNewsletter - 29 July - World ClassBartenders from around the globe gathered at the iconic hotel as they prepared for five days of mixology challenges which will determine who will be crowned the 2014 winner.

New Zealand is represented by Jason Clark from Auckland’s Bedford Soda and Liquor for a second year.  He beat Cam Timmins of Ostro and James Millar of Fukuko (both Auckland), Shannon Sanderson of Lalaland (Wanaka) and apprentice Ray Letoa of Roxy Cinema Miramar (Wellington).

Paying homage to Scotland’s whisky heritage, the bartenders began by having their knowledge of blends put to the test, before moving on to a more sensory challenge to stimulate the judges.  Jason presented “a hiking journey through New Zealand mountain ranges and wood forests” in the sensory challenge and a “Hobbit-inspired experience” for Blends of the Worlds.

The overall winner of the World Class Global Final 2014 will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on 1st August 2014.
