Taranaki customers will be spoilt for choice with Countdown Vogeltown officially opened for business – the second of two new stores opened in the region recently.

The new 2400sqm Countdown Vogeltown store at 32 Hori Street in New Plymouth was officially opened by New Plymouth District Mayor, Andrew Judd. The opening was also attended by representatives from the Salvation Army, who were presented with a trolley of food for the local food bank.

Countdown Vogeltown Store Manager, Stephen Mack says, “Both myself, and the team are really excited that the store is now open for business. It’s been a busy time getting the store ready, but it’s definitely paid off. The store looks great and I’m sure our new customers will love it.”

“We’re looking forward to getting to know the locals and we’re committed to providing them with great fresh food, a modern shopping experience and value for money,” Mack says.

Countdown’s Managing Director Steve Donohue says, “As a business, opening two stores in one week is hard work, but this sort of investment in the regions is incredibly rewarding.”

“We’re really proud to provide not only 45 new jobs in this store, but over 700 jobs in total, across the Taranaki region. On top of that, with the opening of both Vogeltown and Stratford, we are also providing two fantastic new stores that will deliver great prices and products for their local communities,” Donohue says.

New Plymouth District Mayor, Andrew Judd says, “It’s great to see a nationwide chain is confident in our district’s growth by expanding its presence in New Plymouth. Countdown is a well-established brand in the city and I’m sure this new store will continue that success.”

The new generation store has been designed with Countdown’s latest design features and includes wider aisles, a more expansive fresh produce department and energy efficient fittings and equipment.
