Following the success of Countdown’s annual Suppliers Charity Golf Day, a cheque for $141,000 was presented to Alzheimers Auckland by Prime Minister John Key.
Countdown’s annual Suppliers Charity Golf Day has now raised more than $1.5 million since the first event held 13 years ago. Funds raised over the years have helped Alzheimers Auckland develop its services and meet the growing needs of those suffering from dementia.
Countdown Managing Director, Dave Chambers says he is very proud that Countdown’s suppliers continue to support the event to such a great extent. “The Supplier Charity Golf Day is such a great day out; not only does it raise funds for a good cause, but it’s a good opportunity to catch up with suppliers socially and I’m always very appreciative that they support us in helping this cause.”
Countdown recently won the ‘Health and Wellbeing’ award at the Business and Community Share Good Business Egg Awards 2016, where they were commended for their long-standing support of Alzheimers Auckland and the Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal.
“Being active locally is really important to Countdown, which is why we value our partnership with Alzheimers. They do such a valuable job in supporting those living with dementia, along with those affected by it,” says Chambers.
Currently, there are between 15,000 – 17,000 people with dementia living in Auckland and these numbers are growing with an aging population.
