Australian website helps with health rating

rsz_screen_shot_2014-10-13_at_95150_amResearchers at The George Institute for Global Health have launched a new website – www.foodswitchstars.com.au – to help shoppers work out how much fat, sugar and salt is in their food. The new website is designed to complement the Australian government’s health star ratings scheme that will see FMCG manufacturers clearly label the health rating for their products.

Currently, 55,000 supermarket products are rated on the site, which will be constantly updated.

Shoppers can also use the same website to take part in a new food labelling trial, which will allocate one of five different food labels highlighting the healthiness of products when scanned with a smartphone. The trial is designed to find out which labels are best to promote healthy shopping and eating.
