NZ FGC supports Commerce Commission efforts

The Commerce Commission has published several documents this morning: the Grocery Supply Code Draft Report, the Proposed Draft Grocery Supply Code, the Wholesale Supply Inquiry Preliminary Findings Paper, and the Commerce Commission Grocery Supplier Survey results.

The NZ FGC is currently reviewing the material in detail and will be engaging constructively through the consultation process. You can click on the buttons below to read the documents released.

FGC Chief Executive Raewyn Bleakley comments: “We support efforts of the Commission and Minister Willis to ensure fairer trading relationships and healthy, sustainable competition in the grocery sector. It’s encouraging to see the draft Code moving in a direction that supports greater certainty, fairness, and transparency in supplier relationships.

“We will be carefully analysing the proposals and taking time to review the reports thoroughly and compare to our previous submissions, which raised concerns on behalf of suppliers. There is a further submissions and cross submissions process, and we will be engaging further through these consultation processes to make sure the impact on suppliers is well understood and unintended consequences are clearly articulated.

“We are pleased to see the inclusion of new provisions that explicitly prohibit retaliation against suppliers for exercising their rights and the Commission’s commitment to prioritising guidance for the industry,” says Bleakley.
