Frucor Suntory appoints new Head of Safety & Wellbeing

Frucor Suntory has announced the appointment of Joanne Van Den Berg as Head of Safety & Wellbeing.

Jo has an extensive background in safety and wellbeing. She has held a number of safety roles at Air New Zealand and the Department of Corrections, where she led their Safety Business Partnering function.

Based in Auckland, Jo will be a key player as part of Frucor Suntory’s People Leadership Team. She is passionate about continuing to improve Frucor Suntory’s Health & Safety and wellbeing culture.

The recent COVID-19 outbreak saw Jo lead the Safety & Wellbeing response at the Department of Corrections, where strong collaboration and agile thinking were key to ensuring the Department could operate safely and people were supported.

During her time at Air New Zealand, Jo led the company’s Health and Safety Worker Participation and Engagement strategy project.

The two-year project focused on empowering the airline’s health and safety reps, so they felt able to raise issues and work with leaders on solutions for identified risks – ultimately helping drive an engaged safety culture.

It was awarded WorkSafe New Zealand/ACC best overall contribution to improving workplace health and safety in New Zealand at the Safeguard Awards in 2019.

As Frucor Suntory’s new Head of Safety & Wellbeing, Jo’s mission is to fuel people’s passion for Health & Safety and Wellbeing, enabling better work through a healthier, safer work environment.

“I want safety to be part of our DNA – a core value we embrace, where safety is inherent in all our systems and processes, people instinctively operate safely and challenge others to do the same. A workplace where our people can truly thrive.

“Ultimately, safety is about people. It’s about embracing the things that go right and collaborating to find solutions so we can all go home to our families and friends safe and well, healthy in mind and body, each and every day.”
