Countdown Aotea Opening – Store Manager Mark Berney and Porirua Mayor Mike Tana cut the ribbon.

Countdown’s much anticipated new Aotea store has been officially opened in Porirua by Mayor Mike Tana, bringing with it 57 new jobs for the local community.

Countdown Aotea Store Manager Mark Berney says he and his team are very excited to open their doors and share the store with customers. “Countdown Aotea brings with it 57 new jobs, and we’re excited and proud to welcome these new team members to the Countdown team. The Aotea community will love our new store, which includes wider aisles, a more expansive fresh produce department, and a full production bakery,” says Berney.

Aotea is Countdown’s first new store to open in 2017, and is an example of their continued commitment to investing in communities around New Zealand. Last year Countdown invested more than $200 million building new stores and upgrading their existing store network.

Students from Rangikura School attended the opening and performed a haka to mark the opening. Countdown also presented a $500 trolley of groceries to the local Salvation Army foodbank, which the store will donate to each week through Countdown’s Food Rescue programme.
