Australia is getting Boring

Boring Oat Milk, New Zealand’s best-selling plant milk, will roll out its distinctive green and white bottles into 95% of Australian Woolworths supermarkets this week.

Both its Original and Barista oat milk varieties will hit shelves in 953 Woolworths supermarkets in Australia, out of 995 total, as well as 80 Metro locations nationwide.

Boring Oat Milk

Boring is New Zealand’s first locally made oat milk and this marks the brand’s first major supermarket launch in Australia, following steady growth there in premium retailers, specialty grocers and cafes.

Founder Morgan Maw says the expansion is a significant milestone in Boring’s international journey.

“This is a key step in our mission to bring premium, locally made oat milk to more people without compromising on taste, sustainability or quality,” she says.

“We know that Australians are turning to premium plant-based products more than ever, and Boring is ready to meet that demand with a product that’s simple, sustainable and made for everyday use.”

Backed by Apollo Foods – the Hawke’s Bay company behind beverage brands Picky Juice and The Apple Press – Boring Oat Milk has grown rapidly since launching in 2021, now holding around 31% of New Zealand’s oat milk category and 12.4% of total plant milk.

Boring’s rise mirrors growing demand for environmentally conscious dairy alternatives. Research commissioned by the brand in 2023 found oats grown in New Zealand produce 93% fewer emissions than dairy and use 70% less land.

Maw’s mission was to bring oat milk production to New Zealand, which many other brands had previously said was impossible. Using oats from Otago and Southland, the milk is processed at scale in Apollo’s Hawke’s Bay manufacturing plant, making it the first oat milk to be commercially produced in Aotearoa.

“We’ve always believed in doing the boring stuff well, sourcing locally, cutting carbon miles and making a product that’s consistently great,” says Maw.

“It’s not flashy, but it’s honest, and it’s clearly connected with people here. Now, Australia’s getting Boring too,” she says.

While Australia is the brand’s next big market, Boring’s growth story is already international. The brand entered Vietnam in 2024 following a New Zealand trade mission in 2023, and further expansion across the Asia-Pacific region is on the horizon.
