After a decade spent learning the ropes of running supermarkets, first as owner-operators of Four Square Spring Creek, then New World Waimate, Tommy Glubb and Casey Hilton-Pryor have just taken the reins of New World Gore, their largest store yet.
“We’re really looking forward to settling into New World Gore and getting to know the locals,” says Tommy. “Taking on this new challenge in such a beautiful part of the country feels like a great next step for our family. We can’t wait to get stuck in.”
Southland’s natural beauty and outdoor activities drew Tommy and Casey to the region. Their two children, aged 9 and 6, are also excited about the move, especially the prospect of a local McDonald’s.
Tommy and Casey are used to big transitions. Going from a Four Square to a New World was a big leap for them, but Casey says the Waimate community made it easy.
“We’re so grateful to our amazing team and the Waimate community who have supported us these past three years. We’ve loved being part of the community and always aim to replicate that sense of community and connection wherever we are,” Casey says.
During their time at New World Waimate, Tommy and Casey implemented several store improvements, including introducing a click-and-collect service as well as upgrading shelving across the store and opening up the entrance to make it more the store more welcoming.
Tommy says the couple have some great ideas for New World Gore, but they will get to know the community first before they initiate anything big.
“Every community is unique, and we’ll spend time understanding the store’s operations, working with the team, and listening to the community’s needs,” Casey says.
“The current owner-operators have done a fantastic job, and we have a great relationship with them. They’ve really supported us to make it an easy transition.”
“We’re thrilled to become part of the Southland community,” Tommy adds. “We love skiing, and our kids are at the perfect age for some of the great outdoor adventures that Southland has to offer.”
